SANDY SHORES - A small plane had to perform an emergency landing on the Sandy Shores Airfield after the landing gear got jammed.

The Los Santos Fire Department was summoned at 20:08 on February 11th, 2022 for an incoming Mayday call from Sandy Shores, where firefighters arrived quickly by ground to prepare the runway for a safe emergency landing. The pilot had radioed to nearby Sandy Shores Airfield minutes earlier that he will need to make an emergency landing after reporting issues with the landing gear. San Andreas Park Rangers along with the Los Santos Police Department closed the airfield and held a perimeter alongside the runway. After preparing the landing zone for the airplane and gathering all resources, a contact was established with the pilot.

The pilot confirmed that he was the only person on board. The airplane made three flyovers to get familiar with the landing zone and to get prepared for the final landing. 20 minutes later, the plane approached the runway and successfully landed in the landing zone previously set up by Engine 4 and CRASH 1 crews. Upon landing, the pilot was responsive and reported the door being jammed. Engine 4 and CRASH 1 crews quickly approached the plane with foam, starting defensive operation accompanied by Engine 2. Image Rescue 23 was staging nearby, waiting for the patient to be extricated from the plane. Approximately 3 minutes after the landing, the front part of the plane caught fire. All three crews quickly and swiftly dealt with the fire, with a "knockdown" being confirmed 2 minutes after the ignition. Engine crews proceeded with the extraction and one male was examined for injury by LSFD Paramedics, desiring hospital care following the landing and fire-related injuries. There were no other injuries.

That well-coordinated effort by more than 10 LSFD responders under the command of Fire Captain Reinhart, had the plane under control in one hour and 22 minutes, limiting fire damage to the plane. The circumstances leading up to this emergency landing are under active investigation from the SAAA.
