LOS SANTOS - Heavy fire swiftly blew through a medium-sized substation, causing electricity issues during evening hours in Rancho.

The Los Santos Fire Department was notified by two 9-1-1 calls at 20:40 on Sunday, February 13th, 2022 of a structure fire at Little Bighorn Avenue in Rancho. Firefighters arrived quickly to find generators involved with fire inside a substation.

The rapid spread of intense flames within the substation guided first-arriving firefighters to quickly commence defensive operations, applying multiple large hose streams from the exterior, including one from atop extended aerial ladder, to prevent flames from extending beyond the substation walls. Aurum Energy has been informed about the emergency and their employees quickly arrived at the scene.

While gathering information and instructions about the power generators on fire from Aurum Energy employees, another fire was reported by Truck 2 company just north of the substation, on Roy Lowenstein Boulevard. When the Engine 6 company arrived, they found a small bush fire slowly extending forward. Engine 6 quickly dealt with the fire, rejoining the remaining companies in the main substation fire.

Engine 2 crew entered the substation and with instructions from Aurum Energy employees turned off both terminals, shutting the power generators off at 21:47. One minute later, all crews resumed the fire attack with a defensive approach.

All three companies battled the fire for 86 minutes before EMS Division Chief Patrycja Lipska declared a knockdown. No injuries were reported.

Monetary loss from the fire is still being tabulated. The cause of this fire is under active investigation by the San Andreas State Fire Marshals. More information about the current situation with power in the area can be found here.
