MEMORANDUM #66


Dear Staff,
In conclusion of a discussion made by our command staff, we have decided to further expand on our hair regulations along with our tattoo policy to improve the standards of professional appearances.

Before:
3.5.6 Hair & Tattoo Regulations
There are certain standards required to be maintained in order to also maintain the image of the department in compliance with professionalism and respect.

The following are the regulations for hair & facial hair:
  • Males may not grow beards or any facial hair that will affect the seal of their SCBA mask. Mustaches and goatees are allowed.
  • If male or female employees have hair longer than shoulder length, it MUST be tied up into a bun or ponytail during shift hours.
  • Hair may only be dyed natural colors.
The following are regulations for tattoos:
  • No racial/offensive tattoos must be visible at any time while fulfilling duties under the LSFD.
  • No facial tattoos.

  • Males shall not grow hair that is excessive, or present a ragged, unkempt or extreme appearance. Hair styling (outward flip, afro, perm, men buns, etc.) is forbidden. Hair must not exceed in length over the top of their collar.
  • If female employees have hair longer than shoulder length, it MUST be tied up into a bun or ponytail during shift hours.
  • Hair may only be dyed natural colors.
The following are regulations for tattoos:
  • No racial/offensive tattoos must be visible at any time while fulfilling duties under the LSFD.
  • No facial tattoos.
  • No neck tattoos (None may extend above department issued t-shirt collar).
  • No hand tattoos (None may extend below department issued Class A shirt sleeves).
