⠀⠀MONTHLY BULLETIN NEWSLETTER #33 - MARCH 2021⠀⠀

Newsletter thirty three! March has been an extraordinary month for the department, the department finds itself as busy as ever with calls spanning across the state and departures of old friends and welcoming new faces. March has been nothing short of surprises.

This month has not been short of public appearances for the Los Santos Fire Department under Public Relations as they remain busy pushing education and making sure events go ahead as planned. With the recent addition of the Firefighter II Certification and Wildland certification the department continues to push the training of Firefighters to new heights making sure they are ready for anything and everything. Meanwhile, Lifeguards have been busy with continuing to make sure the civilians of Los Santos remain safe on our beaches with the recent rise of Shark Attacks.

The Los Santos Fire Department regrets to inform you of a Line of Duty Death in the passing of an active member, Engineer Isabel Lopez. Isabel was taken from us whilst in the arms of her fellow Firefighters, following a courageous fight with complications related to injuries sustained after a motor vehicle accident.

Isabel joined the department in July of 2020, initially serving the department as a member of the Public Relations Division and reaching the position of Assistant Director, Lopez then joined the department as a full-time Firefighter and Paramedic. Most recently, Isabel left her mark within the Training and Recruitment division, having helped shape the new generation of Firefighters.

As a department, we mourn Isabel's loss deeply and extend our thoughts and prayers to the Lopez family in their time of need.

Arrangements are currently pending, and more information will be provided as it is available.

Rest in Peace Sister, we'll take it from here.

In this reintroduction of 'Fleet Monthly' we have turned the spotlight around towards our 2016 MTL Quint Truck.

The departments 2016 MTL Quint Truck were brought into the fleet back in 2018. The department houses two 2016 MTL Quint Trucks, one being stationed in El Burro Heights, Station Seven and Rockford, Station 2. These apparatuses are fitted with an 8 mile to the gallon (diesel) inline turbocharged Cummins engine sporting 550 horsepower, 500 US Gallon Tank Capacity with a Flow Capacity of 1,500 Gallons Per Minute (GPM)

The departments 2016 MTL Quint Truck are fitted with five seats in total with the front two being the AO - Apparatus Operator (driver) and the CO - Company Officer (in-charge of the company), the three back seats of the apparatus are fitted to face forward towards the way of travel after receiving feedback from employees stating they get a better understanding of the structure/call when they can see it head-on.

Our Quintuple Combination Pump is fitted with an MLT Ultimate Configuration Pump Panel for the easiest and the most efficient ways for our Engineers to control the output and input of their hoses. The panel is sorted so the lines go from front to back making it easier for our Engineers to know which lines are which, these lines currently go from our trash line (booster line) to the 2½" hose line followed by our 3 coloured crosslays (Black, Red and Yellow) followed by the Quints Tower Line.

The departments 2016 MLT Quint Truck boasts a large 105' Horizontal - 98' Vertical rear-mounted bucket ladder with the capability of reaching victims on multi-story buildings such as apartment complexes or store roofs. The apparatuses rear-mounted bucket ladder is often used when someone has got themself trapped out on a balcony, roof or things of that nature.

The 2016 MTL Quint Truck is used for physical rescues such as someone entrapped inside their vehicle following an MVA - Motor Vehicle Accident, in which case our crews would utilize a wide variety of equipment such as the Hydraulic powered Spreaders and Cutters which are used to pry open a door that's jammed in shut after the crash. If the patient's legs are trapped under the dashboard of the vehicle we'd use our Hydraulic RAM. If someone were to be trapped under some sort of machinery or structure our Quint unit would work alongside USAR to rescue the victim, in most cases the rigs 3-17-32 Ton Airbags are used alongside cribbing (blocks of wood) to ensure the thing that's trapped on the victim doesn't crash back down while the airbags expand.

Every month the chief leaves his own statement at the end of every newsletter taking an overlook of the department from his perspective, below you can find what he had to say this month.
Fire Chief Randy Sikes:

"Hello everybody,

I hope everybody's had a good month. We have had Captain applications closed for quite some time now and we are very excited to reopen it and start bringing more members into the officer corps. We are expanding as a Fire Department and need Captains to facilitate our growth. With the opening of CTP, we are looking to bring in an additional 4-6 Captains to supplement our current Captains who are currently working overtime to keep up with the day-to-day work of our fire officers. Please apply if you are eligible and interested.

Congratulations to everybody who's received recognition this month for their hard work.
