OPENING STATEMENT
Welcome to the 26th edition of the Los Santos Fire Department Monthly Newsletter. Lots of the development and focus around the Monthly Newsletter was surrounding mainly copying and pasting articles that the Public Relations Division made and promotions, and the identified problem with this was that nobody actually read the articles as there was no interest surrounding them. So, starting this month forward, along with a visual overhaul of the newsletter, the Public Relations Division has decided to push forward more interesting internal developments, news and updates that mainly concerns the Los Santos Fire Department and it's members. So for this first edition of the enhanced newsletter, the Public Relations Division is still experimenting with some headlines and there may be more added in the future should there be interest in it or something may be dropped in the future, depending on the interest.

As it's the Public Relations Division's first experimental enhanced newsletter, there are a couple of featured points that will be brought primarily in this Opening Statement. Mostly around the Public Relation's perspective of the public, stuff that has happened this month and the public's opinion on the Los Santos Fire Department.

First thing to bring up, of course, that cannot be ignored is the riots and protests that happened regarding the Black Lives Matter movement through June, the original incident that sparked the riots was due to a shooting by the LSSD, unconfirmed witness reports state that a black man was shot over thirty times by multiple LSSD deputies. The original incident was sparked interest primarily on facebrowser when the victim's cousin spoke up and garnered support for the movement. After some word-of-mouth, primarily in the area of Davis, people in mass gathered for what was a march down the streets of Los Santos. The march came to an abrupt end when LSSD SWT and LSPD's SWAT team got word of protesters breaching the Mission Row Police Department. While lots of damage was done in regards to government property, in respect to the Fire Department, there was no reported incidents of property damage or any injured personnel.

There is no secret that throughout June the Los Santos Fire Department was understaffed in a large way, whilst calls kept piling in, with only a few staff available during peak times, police officers had to resort to other means of transportation and treatment. However, let this not demoralize us, as coming into July we've improved recruitment in a huge way, for the first time ever, the Los Santos Fire Department has hosted a large Career Fair that we organized ourselves, with a fire demonstration to the audience, we've also gained a lot of interest from the public and with that, lots of applications and interest in starting a career.

As another interesting point, the Public Relations Division picked up chatter in regards to a possible civil unrest that may be building up, this time in regards to an unrelated shooting caused by Gruppe Six. For those following the latest news by LSNN, you may have been aware of a story that was reported on in regards to a person being shot by Gruppe Six for "riding a bike". It was first picked up by our Public Relations Division on Social Media, when the victim's friend posted in regards to the shooting it sparked public outrage. However, despite the public outrage, there wasn't any organization of a protest or gathering and the chatter later died down in a slow pace.

Furthermore, as of a more recent event. The Regulators Motorcycle Club on June 27th went for a journey across San Andreas in respects for Deputy Kevin Valance from the Los Santos Sheriff's Department, whom had recently passed away. The Los Santos Fire Department also showed appreciation and respect by attending the event.

And the final interesting point to bring up; roughly about a day before the journey as organized by the Motorcycle Club, during the Pride BBQ Event, the Los Santos County Lifeguards released their first addition of a calendar which is planned to be released at the end of every month. If interested, you are able to personally find this calendar on the Los Santos County Lifeguards Facebrowser page.

For the closing remarks, the Public Relations Division hopes you enjoy the rest of the newsletter and as the summer cranks up the heat going into July, the Public Relations Division wishes you to stay safe, cool and hydrated.

. MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF
Hello everybody,

First of all, congratulations to everybody who worked hard for a promotion or award this month. I'd like to highlight the new style of the newsletter that the Public Relations Division has come out with, and I must say that it looks amazing. It's awesome to see how the newsletter has evolved over the years.

During this month, we experienced a staff shortage like we haven't seen in a long time, which was in large part due to several members taking absence. With many members returning from their absence, our staff shortages shouldn't be a problem as we move into July.

The department has grown to the largest that it's ever been, and I'm very proud of the work that our Training and Recruitment Division has done to get us to this point. I'd like to strongly encourage our member to sign up for T&R. Not only does it help spread the workload out amongst several people, it gives you a chance to pass on your knowledge and expertise to the next generation of firefighters, EMTs, and lifeguards. This can be done in several roles, whether you are a medical instructor or an academy instructor. Either way, the help is appreciated.

That's all I've got, have a great day.

. DEMARTMENTAL UPDATES-
.
HANDBOOK UPDATES
  • (( 2.6.14 Members must require the consent of faction leadership (Assistant Chief+) for their characters' secondary job. Failure to do so might result in a strict punishment. Jobs are considered separate from official factions and do not require DFP permission. ))
POLICY HIGHLIGHTS
  • San Andreas Aviation Code
    • At Los Santos International Airport: Vehicles must utilize marked vehicle service roads and must NOT cross any CMA (Controlled Movement Area), unless done by an authorized individual for the purpose of carrying out official duties, and must always be done while in contact with ATC or on CTAF frequency. All vehicles must travel at a reasonably safe speed while operating on vehicle service roads.
  • Public Relations Event Attendance Regulations
    • The Public Relations Division is no longer regulating and requiring the utilization of Class B uniforms when attending future events.
(( FACTION UPDATES ))
  • Handling Departmental Radio
    • We've observed and received an increased number of complaints from legal factions and LFM that departmental radio transmissions are going unanswered or ignored while staff are on duty (Viewable by them with /onduty). As a reminder, every member of the faction is expected to answer the departmental radio whilst on duty as the highest ranking member; exception being if they have passed the responsibility on to another member (Refer to section 8.9.1 of the LSFD Handbook for specifics). If no Firefighter/EMT's are online, the responsibility will pass to Lifeguards on duty if any. There should be no situations where staff are on duty and no one is responding to the radio.
  • Testing out new fchat colors
    • The Los Santos Fire Department Command will be testing out new fchat colors throughout the month where it may end up in a faction vote on which color we will end up having.
  • Sheriff's Communication Center
    • You may notice now when you contact the Sheriff's Department you may be met with a response from someone referring to themselves as SCC, this is the Sheriff's Communications Center. The SCC is the LSSD's latest venture on bringing dispatchers to the faction to aid in communications between factions and assist in smoother allocation of resources to scenes.

. DIVISIONAL UPDATES-
.
DIVISIONAL OPENINGS
  • Recruitment for Training and Recruitment is currently OPEN.
    • The Training & Recruitment is the backbone of the Fire Department, and it responsible for a variety of tasks such as recruiting, interviewing, and training new and seasoned employees. Current employees who meet the requirements are free to apply.
  • Recruitment for Public Relations is currently OPEN.
    • The Public Relations division for the Los Santos Fire Department is a crucial yet often understated part of any strongly functioning fire department. In modern times there are fire services across the country being privatized, and with other government agencies in action where we reside, we’re also at war for funding! It’s important to show our worth for these reasons, alongside recruitment efforts. Creating interest and educating the public is one of our greatest assets.
.
DIVISIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
PUBLIC RELATIONS
The Public Relations Division has undergone a change in leadership, with this, a change in policy and procedure. The division will now-on mostly be focusing with giving people experience with public interaction, rather then pointless paperwork and articles. Firefighters that wish to join the Public Relations Division will be exempt from any requirements while Civilian Staff requirements will be changed to more-fit your own personal agenda and activities and will no longer require anyone to write pointless articles that won't make it to the public. Along with this, the Public Relations Division has plans to liaise with other divisions when it comes to setting up events and demonstrations for the public, alongside this, a huge increase in communication to not only the public, but the department itself. - Director Elise Reyna
