[+] Character Background
Melissa (Li-mei) Sun, was born in Shanghai to Chinese American parents Meili Sun and Jiao-long Sun. As well as, having a four year elder brother called Bao Sun. The family were in the country for a short business meeting. What was supposed to be a short business meeting in the city, swiftly turned into a three month long business excursion; causing Meili to give birth to Melissa abroad. Despite recently giving birth to a child, the headstrong and business savvy Meili would accept a three year contract working as a private in-house lawyer for an architecture firm.

Melissa’s early life was mainly male dominated. Being raised by her father and her closest friend being her brother. She would naturally be pushed down the avenue of sports and at an early age would show some promise in the fields of gymnastics, dance and swimming.

At the age of three the family would finally move back to America and into central Los Santos. Melissa struggled to adapt to the shifts in culture at first. She became somewhat of an outcast at her nursery; not really understanding the change in dynamics around her. Combined with Cantonese being her first language; it was hard for her to communicate with those around her.

Due to her early life struggles and combined with her parent’s pressure. Melissa began to apply herself more seriously to her interests; prioritizing swimming and dance. As the years passed, she began to make more friends. Most of her friends were found through swimming club and ballet sessions. Because most of her friends were found within sporting clubs, Melissa developed a competitive mentality. Often wanting to be the best around her. The normal reserved and quiet personality she held, being replaced with a brattish and abrasive personality when things didn't turn out her way.

As she reached her teenage years it was clear that Melissa had some swimming prowess. She had dropped all her other extracurricular activities and spent almost all her free time at the Little Seoul Community Centre, using their facilities. She had managed to catch the eye of her swimming coach and by the time she was sixteen, was offered a part-time position at the community centre. Although not as much as she would have liked, she was entrusted with some lifeguarding responsibilities, as well as coaching the occasional coaching of the junior’s class. But, mostly she was stuck on reception duty. Much to Melissa’s dismay.

Regardless of her admin duties as a receptionist. Whenever Melissa got a brief glimpse of the world of coaching the juniors, or being allowed to be a poolside Lifeguard during the sleepy afternoon shifts of a Thursday afternoon. A spark would ignite inside of Melissa’s brain. An excitement and passion to help the people of Los Santos. Sure, she wasn’t a beat cop keeping the streets clean. But, in her mind this was her way of helping and it felt right to her.

Fortunately for Melissa, during her time at the community centre she was given the ability to take on some beginner level qualifications and certifications. Obtaining an entry level Three Swimming Coach qualification from the American Swimming Coaches Association, as well as a basic first aid certification. It wouldn’t pull her off of the reception desk more than a few times a week, but it felt like a step in the right direction to the teenager.

Unfortunately for Melissa, her desire to prove herself as a swimmer caused her school grades to slip. So much so that her GPA dropped below a 3.6 average; causing her to be denied from the University of San Andreas, Los Santos, after graduation from High School. Melissa’s bout of misfortune wouldn't finish there. It would begin with Melissa losing her job at the community centre. A member of the local Little Seoul council realized that they had an under qualified worker, working at the centre. Causing Melissa to be let go. Demotivated by this, Melissa began to work in a Chinese-style restaurant. The work was repetitive and frustrating to her, clearly a means to an end, but not a career she wished to pursue.

After a year of working at the restaurant Melissa and the Sun family would experience an unexpected loss. Melissa’s elder brother, Bao would pass away unexpectedly one night. The doctors were uncertain of what triggered the sudden death, writing it off as a medical mystery. The death would hit Melissa the hardest. It caused her to slip back into her childhood ways of being more reserved and quiet. She hid herself away from her friends and family, becoming somewhat of a shut-in.

Around four months after her eighteenth birthday Melissa would meet a man, who would one day become her partner. He’d be a shoulder for her, as she processed the hardship of losing her brother.

One year later the proverbial cherry on-top of Melissa’s misfortune filled cake would arrive when the restaurant she had been working at would be shut down due to health code violations. It was safe to say that Melissa was wallowing in a deep well of depression.

Deep lows are always followed by deep highs. The man supporting her through all her hardships would finally become her partner. He would remind Melissa of what’s important in life and drive her in the right direction. Pushing her to pick-up her passions again and work towards a career. Melissa cares deeply for this man, however she's uncertain of where his wealth comes from. He slips away to business meetings at random hours throughout the day and has a seemingly bottomless amount of money, that which he's able to invest into many projects and avenues. Melissa's suspicions would reach the roof one night, when she arrived at her partner's house, to find him sitting in the living room with the lights off. She flicked the lights on, to find him with a bloodied white shirt wrapped around an arm. At first she froze up, uncertain of what she would do. Then something clicked in her head, as she remembered what she had been taught in her basic first aid course. She peeled back the white rag, to find a incision along her partner's bicep. Roughly two inches to length and clearly made by non serrated edge. With shaky hands she cleaned and sutured the wound, managing to do a decent enough job to stabilize and half the bleeding.

This is where Melissa is currently sitting. She’s optimistic and passionate to work for the Lifeguards, she has a drive to help the people of Los Santos in a department that reflects similar interests, morals and ethics to her own. As a person Melissa is a lot more reserved than your average eighteen year old Los Santos goer. She is somewhat of a wallflower and leans towards the back of the room, often being an on-looker, because of this she has somewhat of a lone wolf mentality. The only time she truly comes out of her shell would be when she’s helping other people, or discussing one of her special interests.
