To report an emergency call 9-1-1
The phone number 9-1-1 should be called when firefighters, medical help or law enforcement are needed immediately due to a threat to life or property. These typically include:
- Unattended or out of control fire
- Unconsciousness (someone has passed out and is not responding)
- Someone is having difficulty breathing, talking or skin color is changing (typically blue)
- Large volume of blood loss or broken bones
- Someone is trapped, stranded or having difficulty in water
- A criminal is present or a crime is being committed
- Any immediate threat to life or property
9-1-1 is for emergencies only. For general queries contact 3-3-3.
Never call 9-1-1 as a joke as this wastes emergency resources and risks other's lives because units are not available to attend their emergency. Misuse of 911 can result in citations and/or imprisonment.
